Dry Needling for Muscle Pain
Precise trigger point release for muscles that will not let go, paired with rehabilitation to keep them released.
Overview
What Dry Needling Is
Dry needling uses a thin filament needle placed directly into a taut band or trigger point to produce a local twitch response, which releases the knot and restores normal muscle length.
It is most effective when it is followed immediately by movement and strengthening, which is why our providers pair it with physical therapy rather than offering it on its own.
What to Expect
- 1Identification of the specific trigger points reproducing your symptoms.
- 2Brief needle placement with a possible twitch response and short-lived ache.
- 3Immediate movement or exercise to lock in the change.
- 4Mild soreness for 24 to 48 hours, similar to after a hard workout.

What It Treats
- Myofascial trigger points
- Persistent neck and shoulder knots
- Low back and hip tightness
- Tension headaches
- Tendon-related pain such as tennis elbow
- Calf, hamstring and IT band restriction

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
No. The tool is similar but the reasoning is different — dry needling targets specific dysfunctional muscle tissue identified on exam, while acupuncture works from traditional point systems.
Who performs dry needling?
Only appropriately trained and credentialed clinicians on our team perform dry needling.
